Inspire kids to be kind
Julia Feller, a Junior at Rockville High School, and her siblings, bought gifts and made cards to donate to kids whose families may not be able to afford the extra splurge this season. She dropped them off at the BlackRock Center for the Arts, where KindWorks is supporting a toy drive. The last time Julia was at Black Rock it was to play Nala in the Lion King - her first lead role outside of school plays. She loves musical theatre, and will likely major in it in college, she says. Her mom shared that they stayed in the Black Rock parking lot for a while reminiscing about how the situation had changed - a bustling arts center where Julia had performed just a year ago is now a much needed hub for food and toys for those who are suffering. "All the memories came flashing back," says Julia. "I was super happy to be back, but also actually kinda sad. It's sad that there are no shows going on, I really miss it." I asked Julia why she was inspired to give back in this way: "I'm a theatre kid, and I love to bring joy to people through stories. Since live performances are not an option right now, I hope these gifts and cards bring someone joy, make someone feel good this holiday season." Julia and her siblings also made gifts for the elderly: mugs filled with tea bags, hot cocoa packet, and treats. Thank you Julia for spreading joy this season!
