Expressing Gratitude
At the beginning of Covid lockdown in early March, we started a family gratitude practice. With both kids home, each evening we’d write down three things we were grateful for and toss them into a bowl on our dining table – continuing by text after the kids left home.During this time devoted to gratitude, we were sifting through the past nine months of memories, remembering all the little things that got us through this difficult time – from Scrabble games to family time, from our dog Luna to afternoon naps. As we know, expressing gratitude is one of the kindest things we can do, for ourselves and for others. The practice increases our happiness, relieves stress, makes us healthier, and even more successful. When we express gratitude to others, for example by writing a letter and reading it out loud to them, the benefits increase exponentially. Perhaps we can take a few moments to write a letter or two of thanks – to a family member, mentor, essential worker. I’ll start.Dear KindWorks family, thank you for inspiring me every day to know that there are so many caring people in the world. There is no way indifference stands a chance against our onslaught of compassion. With deep respect, Salma
